When the plant reaches full capacity, it will be capable of meeting approximately 7% of the United Kingdom’s electricity demand on its own. EPR reactors aim for high safety standards with multilayer safety systems, passive safety features, and a long-life operating design.
The distinctive aspects of Hinkley Point C:
Low-carbon baseload generation: uninterrupted energy supply for more than 60 years
High safety standards: double-walled reactor buildings and redundant safety systems
National grid integration: a large-scale and continuous core source of power
Economic impact: employment for tens of thousands of people and development of the local supply chain
The project aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by providing stable and continuous energy generation that complements renewable energy sources. At the same time, it serves as a reference and learning platform for the United Kingdom’s future nuclear projects.
When completed, Hinkley Point C will play a key role in the country’s long-term energy transition and will launch a new era in energy infrastructure as one of Europe’s largest and most complex nuclear construction projects.
